A Message to Educators and Legislators

These are exciting times for educators and legislators interested in advancing student performance by:
  • Providing each child with a program of instruction that has been tailored to the learning needs of that child.
  • Retaining and expanding opportunities for experienced teachers by redefining their daily responsibilities to leverage their capabilities while increasing their ability to directly influence individual students.
  • Diagnosing individual student requirements by measuring mastery of state standards.

These opportunities exist because technology-based solutions such as virtual schools enable the creation, management, delivery, and measurement of individual learning. Virtual schools are able to commence operations without many of the encumbrances and historical limitations of their physical counterparts. However, virtual schools face new and different challenges.

As a services provider which has invested considerable time and capital creating a high-quality virtual school program based on input from parents, students, teachers, regulators, and legislators, Connections Academy has seen virtual schools celebrated and vilified. While some of the concerns raised by opponents of virtual education have merit, we also know that the existence of problems should not discourage us from embracing change when we have real opportunities to help students achieve.
